If there’s one thing I’ve learned about makeup it’s that starting with a bad base just leads to a bad end result… I reckon there’s nothing worse than applying a brand new foundation, realising it’s actually not particularly nice but then spending 15 minutes doing the rest of your makeup in the hopes that it’ll improve the look of the crappy foundation
I’ve been there plenty of times and I’m not a big fan of starting over cos I’m just way to lazy On the basis of that I try to ensure I always start with a good primer (if I can be bothered applying one at all) foundation and concealer. That way all the little feature highlighting makeup products like lipstick and eyeshadow really have the chance to enhance the face and look superb :)
Over the last couple of months I’ve tried loads of different concealers and these are my current drugstore favourites – I’ll probably do a list of high end favourites too but to be honest I like the drugstore ones best
These are all inexpensive, give good coverage, don’t crease much throughout the day, don’t sink into the teensy lines around the eyes too much (although they do sink into the little creases a bit, I’ve never come across a single concealer that doesn’t) and come in extremely natural looking shades
Although I’ve mostly concentrated on the dark circles under my eyes these have also been used to hide blemishes too… they all hide the redness of blemishes and aren’t thick or cakey so don’t just draw more attention to the area. Unfortunately I’ve tried quite a few concealers that just seem to highlight the areas I’m trying to hide. Money well spent, eh? :)

I've always wanted to try the roll-on Bourjois concealer. Currently on a makeup ban, so can't give it a try anytime soon :( xxx
I would like to hug whoever discovered primer. I find it a godsend! Recently bought my second bottle of the MAC one. It's a bit pricey but a little goes a long way!
Does Rimmel still make that Hide The Blemish stick? I used to use that when it was about 99p!
Having seen the News tonight, I hope that you and yours are all OK?
Z xx
Great review, I just wish I could get all these brands here in Canada. I still love my Maybelline Dream smooth mousse concealer (although it's now discontinued). I'm going to see if I can find that Rimmel one :)
Fab post and great that you choose really affordable ones! xxx
I have the Bourjois bio detox in a foundation....and I really don't like that one! I think it also has a funky smell from it!
Mmm don't like the NC one very much! It tends to go all creasy
Great review! I can never find a concealer I am happy with. I was using the Meow powder concealer, it was great for hiding dark circles, but it was sitting in creases too much. I've just started using the No7 radiance concealer and it's not bad. :) x
i have never ever tried maybelline concealer...shame on me! xx
I'm so glad you posted this! I've been looking for a good cheaper concealer!! :)
Thank you so much for this post, I'm always on the outlook for better concealers and never know which drugstore ones to try.

great post, I always find your posts so helpful. I'm always on the look out for new drugstore concealers, I have tried the Maybelline one and really want to try the Bourjois one. I find Rimmels Match Perfection concealer a great drugstore find for covering dark circles xxx
Pennyblossoms I didn’t spot a Hide the blemish stick but if it was really good they probably discontinued it (whats with that?! Companies always seem to stop making the products that actually work!!) We’re all grand, no trouble close to me thankfully :)
Cel I’m not too keen on the smell either (same with the Detox foundation; smells a bit manky to me) but I’ve found the scent disappears fairly quickly so don’t mind too much ♥
Jo Woods I’m really loving quite a few Rimmel concealers at the min! I didn’t have high expectations for them but they’re bloody marvellous :)
Very informative share. I agree with you in this matter. It is really very imperative that you know what types of audience you will have, so as you can prepare what needs to be prepared in the most suitable way.
