My top 5 drugstore mascaras

I’m a massive fan of drugstore products anyway but when it comes to mascaras I almost never buy high-end ones. I just end up feeling like it’s a waste because I change my mascara every couple of months or so for hygiene reasons so I’d hate to feel like I wasn’t getting my moneys worth!

If someone asked me what kind of mascara wand I like best (might not sound like the most scintillating conversation but I reckon it would be riveting!) I’d say a standard straight, thin, old fashioned, synthetic bristle brush one. Yet absolutely none of those made it into my top 5 :/

All the items mentioned are ones that I’ve used consistently for weeks or months at a time with absolutely no problems

My most common complaint when it comes to mascaras is that they’re too wet… I dunno if many other people find this but a lot of the most highly rated ones (Clinique, Too Faced, Benefit and Maybellines Falsies) are just waaay to wet and make it hard to separate and lengthen the lashes

Each of the products listed below give me thick, long, dark well-separated lashes that don’t flake. Which is all I really ask of a mascara :) Oh and the ones I have are all in black!

5th - Rimmels sexy curves in intense

4th - AVONs super curlacious diamonds

3rd - Maybellines define-a-lash

2nd - No7s extreme Length

1st - Max Factor lash extension effect

Are there any mascaras that you swear by or feel are completely underrated? ♥

I'm like you - I always choose drugstore mascara every time. When something new comes out, I'm usually flocking to it to see if I like it or not. I really like the Define-A-Lash. Have you tried L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black? That's my favorite right now!

I actually never buy any top end mascaras either as I believe there are really good ones available in drugstores. I do own Mac zoom lash and I do like it but that was bought for me as a gift, and after a bad reaction to the bad gal lash dont think id ever spend so much on a mascara.
The one im loving is the Rimmel lash accelerator that I actually only bought coz it was on offer but its amazing, I also LOVE the Rimmel Sexy Curves :) :) xxx

I totally agree that drugstore is the way to go with Mascara, given that you typically throw them out after a few months. I am looking forward to trying that Define A Lash!

I'm the same way about mascaras...no point in spending too much when you're just gonna throw it out in a couple months. Question about the Rimmell Sexy Curves...Does it really help curl your lashes?

I absolutely love rimmel lash accelerator - amazing :). I've never tried a high end mascara and I doubt I ever will because so many drugstore ones are great! xo

The only one of those I've tried is Sexy Curves and it kept smudging on me. :-(

I agree about the wet formula - I hate that. My all time favourite drug store mascara was one that Rimmel used to make years ago (7 or 8 years at least, I'd say) that had a comb instead of a brush - like an eyelash comb kind of thing. It was fantastic for creating hugely long, separated lashes. I wish they hadn't stopped making it!

Completely agree with you about favoring drug store mascaras! Plus, I really cannot tell the difference b/w high-end and drug store mascaras for the most part. I love Rimmel's Glam Eyes mascara!

I don't see the point in paying a lot for mascara when you have to bin it so often, I'm a stickler for not using it longer than your meant to so often stock up when I see one at under £5...yeah, cheap ass! I do like Maybelline false lash effect, it works really well on my lashes so I don't mind paying a bit more for that.

I'm also a fan of drugstore mascaras. The brush on Define-a-Lash looks really good. x

I'm really loving Rimmel right now. They same to make every one of my favourite mascaras. Right now i'm into Extreme Super Lash. Oh, and right now L'oreal Volumissime is dissapointing me as my eyes seem to get teary from it.

I loveee define a lash as well!!! It's so lengthening!
I love the Loreal voluminous too, I have no lashes and it gives me a bold look which I love! I'm thinking of buying the Maybelline Lash stiletto and Hoping I'll love it :P

I'm not a big fan of expensive mascara too! and, I am deeply in love with Maybelline's define a lash. I think its the best mascara Maybelline has yet to make!

I love the Define-a-lash mascara, haven't had it in years though!

I once read that one shouldn't invest great deals of money in make-up essentials like mascara or black eyeliner, because you have to change them a lot and I have to say I agree with that advice and therefore agree with you. My personal favourite mascara is Maybelline's The Collosal, although at first it can be a little wet, it thickens a bit in about a week or so making it perfect for me.

Ooooh, looks like there are quite a lot of fans of Define-a-lash… easy to see why though. I’ve been using mine a lot recently and I’m newly impressed by it every time I do ♥

amber d* I picked up the L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black ages ago cos I’ve heard LOADS of good things about it but haven’t tried it yet! Waiting till I’ve managed to use up a couple that are already open :)

lalalucy1000 when it comes to Rimmel lash accelerator I reckon the reviews I’ve read have been about 50/50 with half the people thinking it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread and the other half saying it’s rubbish – makes it soooo hard to decide whether or not to pick it up!

Your style is your signature I didn’t even know NIVEA sold cosmetics! Do you just get yours from a store or order it online? I adore pretty much everything I’ve ever tried from the NIVEA range so I’ve love to try the cosmetics too

powder paint n pout! I’m a big fan of the 17 range and have dozens of their lipglosses and eyeshadows so Wild Curls is now top of my shopping list

allthatspink1 I figured I’d just review this to give you an idea of what it’s like… hope it was helpful :)

Dee I love the little comb brushes because they’re sooo easy to use. Even if the formula happens to be annoyingly wet (which is frequently the case) I reckon the combs make it easier to apply. Have you tried the Clinique high lengths mascara? It comes with a comb and one of the girls at work swears by it… I haven’t brought myself to splash out on it cos it’s £15 and totally goes against my “drugstore only” mascara policy!

Daisychain I couldn’t agree more and I’m always on the lookout for special offers. Or even those little mini mascaras that come in the GWP sets – really handy and have saved me a small fortune over time

Jade I’ve been meaning to try The Colossal for AGES cos it’s one that I keep seeing mentioned in magazines but I just haven’t got round to picking it up. Next time Maybelline are doing 3 for 2 I’m definitely gonna get it!
